Instructions for Meter/Scale Updates
The USPS® recently announced the approval of a new Mailing Services rate increase effective next year. Mailing Services rate classes affected by this increase include: First-Class Mail, Standard Mail, Periodicals, Package Services, and applicable Extra Services. The main details of this rate change include:
- Effective date of January 22, 2011
- All "Mailing Services" mail classes will be affected – Federal law restricts the average of price increases to equal to that of the Consumer Price Index (a measurement of inflation) which is currently 2.1%
- First-Class Mail®
- 1oz Letter rate increases 1 cent to $0.45
- Additional Letter/Flats ounces will cost $0.20 each
- Postcard rate increases 3 cents to $0.32
- 1oz Flats rate increases 2 cents to $0.90
- 1oz Letters to Canada or Mexico increase 5 cents to $0.85
- 1oz Letters to other international destinations increase 7 cents to $1.05

The 2nd ounce is now FREE for First-Class Mail® Presort pieces weighing less than 2oz
- Standard Mail® Letters are increasing on average by 1.9%
- Delivery Confirmation™will be FREE for several commercial base parcel products as the USPS® continues to make package tracking a major focus – Consult your FP Dealer for details on qualifying for commercial base parcel rates
